"5G Smart Emergency Care" enables a "hospital-on-board" experience, where patient medical records, vital signs, and audio-visual data are transmitted in real-time via 5G networks, allowing hospital-based physicians to provide remote guidance and make advance preparations. These 5G-enabled ambulances are equipped with advanced devices-such as ECG machines, patient monitors, and integrated defibrillators capable of 5G data transmission, as well as mobile CT scanners and rapid blood analyzers-enabling diagnostic tests (e.g., head CT scans) and initial treatments (e.g., thrombolysis) to be performed during transport. The "5G Smart Emergency Care" platform facilitates real-time monitoring and management of ambulance dispatch, vehicle operations, and medical care within the treatment compartment, while also enabling remote collaboration between emergency medical personnel at different levels of the healthcare system.
In March 2025, the first ISO international standard for ambulances-*Negative Pressure Ambulance: Technical Specifications for Medical Compartments* (ISO/TS 17430:2025)-was officially released; this standard was developed under China's leadership. It establishes, for the first time, technical requirements for negative-pressure ambulance medical compartments, covering specifications and test methods for sealing and isolation capabilities, negative-pressure performance, air exchange rates, directional airflow, disinfection system functionality, and the filtration and disinfection units of the negative-pressure system. The release of this international standard further standardizes technical specifications for medical compartments and significantly enhances the safety, effectiveness, and timeliness of patient care in highly infectious environments.
